These accountability tags, also known as MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) tags, measure approximately 2" wide by 3/8" tall and come with Velcro on the back surface. The tag is used to identify the firefighter or other department member, as well as the department in larger incidents.

Recommendations
Departments are encouraged to use a department code. This code is usually four characters that identify one department from another. (For example: Verona Fire Department would choose VEFD.) Use a Rank for ranks of lieutenant or higher. Use a last name only except in cases where two members have the same last name. In those instances, append the first initial. Please feel free to get in touch if you need more recommendations for how to format your member tags or organize your accountability system.
